Pumpkins


The latter half of the year brings a mixed bag of delights. It is the time of year I sell my soul to the insurance daemons in order to reduce my car and house premiums to affordable levels. I start to plan the theme of the Hampers our branch of the family will give as gifts at Christmas. There are the fireworks of Guy Fawkes night to look forward to which I enjoy with a childlike delight. And then there is All Hallow's Eve when I hack and slash at a pumpkin until an image emerges....

I love the traditional Jack O'Lanterns:

But really I prefer more complex carving challenges:

And it wouldn't be Hallowe'en if you couldn't enjoy a little gratuitous pumpkin flaying - removing the skin, and leaving the flesh:
